The Roland LAPC-1 is a Roland MT-32-compatible full-length ISA sound card released in 1988 for $425. Its name is technically the "LAPC-I", with the "I" referring to IBM compatible computers, but it was thought of as the Roman numeral 1 by most people.
The "LA" in the name refers to Linear Arithmetic synthesis, the same type of sound generation used in the D-10 and D-50 series of synthesizers.
It could connect with external MIDI hardware using the MCB-I adapter.
