The original Sound Blaster was released in 1989 as model number CT1320A.. It included the YM3812 OPL2 FM synthesizer chip for AdLib compatibility but added support for digital waveform playback.
It was able to play sound at a 22 kHz sample rate and record at 12 kHz. A CT1320B revision was released that is functionally identical but changes the circuit board layout slightly.
The Sound Blaster also included a 15-pin game port for joystick connections.
