Synths ⇝ Yamaha ⇝ Yamaha SY99
The SY-99 is a hybrid synthesizer that combines 6-operator FM and PCM (AWM2) synthesis. It is an expanded and upgraded version of the Yamaha SY-77 and TG-77 synths with added waveform ROM and sampling capabilities. Polyphony is divided between the synthesis engines, with 16 notes available via the FM engine and 16 notes via the AWM2 engine.
It has 512 kilobytes of sample memory, which is expandable to 3MB using SYEMB05 expansion boards.
