The MU500 tone generator is a very stripped-down version of the MU2000 without the front panel controls, sampler, sequencer, expansion board slots, or A/D inputs. It has General MIDI (GM), General MIDI 2 (GM2), and XG support. Unlike the MU1000 and MU2000, it cannot be upgraded to include Roland GS support.
