The Fantom XR is the high-end rackmount member of the Fantom-X family of synthesizers. It is the successor to Roland's previous rack flagship, the XV-5080. It is both a rompler and a sampler.
The Fantom XR can be expanded with up to six boards from the SRX series of expansion cards.
When initially released, its sampling capabilities were fairly limited, leading to complaints from users. Roland responded by releasing the Sample Tools Expansion, which makes significant improvements to the XR's sampling capabilities.
