The PSS-50 was released at the same time as the PSS-190 and is the lower-end model of the two. It has a single 1/4" output that doubles as both a headphone jack and an aux out. The volume control is digital, with 11 distinct steps. The tempo setting also has 16 distinct steps, ranging 40 BPM to 240 BPM.
It generates sound based on a Yamaha YM7137 chip. Itts sounds are a hybrid of FM and early PCM synthesis, and its sound engine is only in mono. Though it has 100 built-in sounds, many of those are combinations of other sounds in layers and splits.
The demo song is a version of "Venus" by Bananarama that uses the keyboard's internal sounds. It will repeat endlessly when demo mode is started.
