The Prophet T8 was a high-end synthesizer known for its high-quality touch-sensitive keyboard. The development of the T8 was delayed by the development of the best, most responsive keybed possible. It uses optical sensors coupled with a Z80 processor to detect key pressure and the same keyboard design was later used in the Synclavier.

The sound engine of the T8 is very similar to the Prophet 5, but with 3 additional notes of polyphony. It used the same Curtis 3340 oscillators and 3372 voltage-controlled filters, but the 3320 voltage-controlled amplifier was replaced the 3360, a newer design.
