Although released a few years after the Yamaha RY30, the RY20 is considered a notch below it because the RY30 is more programmable. However, the RY20 has more than three times as many sounds in ROM.
It uses a 3v lithium battery for its internal memory. The battery is soldered to the circuit board and a common modification is to replace the battery with a standard CR2032 battery holder when replacing it.
