The DM5 is a drum trigger module with 12 inputs. Individual drum sounds can be panned to one of seven positions. The preview button on the front panel is velocity sensitive and can be used to check how drum samples sound at different levels of impact force (or volume).

An upgraded version of the DM5 with more sounds was released as the Alesis DM Pro and the DM5 can be considered an upgraded version of the Alesis D4.
