Sound Forge was originally developed by Sonic Foundry and released in the early 1990s. The company was bought by Sony in 2003, along with the rest of Sonic Foundry's products. It was later sold to Magix. Although Sound Forge is positioned as an audio file editor rather than a DAW, it has VST plugin support and can work with multiple audio tracks. It does, however, lack MIDI support.
The pro version comes in two versions - the pro standard, and the suite, with the latter having many more features included.
