Acid Pro was originally released in 1998 as Acid pH1 by Sonic Foundry. Sony acquired the company in 2003, and later sold it to Magix in 2016.

The current version of Acid is available in two versions - Acid Music Studio, and the higher-end Acid Music Pro.
